Match Book for iOS

The iOS app has no account, no login, and no Match Book server. We do not receive, store, or have any way to see your reading data.

The following live only in the app's private storage on your device:

• Your imported Goodreads library — titles, authors, ratings, shelves and dates
• Your taste theme and every recommendation you've been shown or rated
• Your app settings

Your AI provider key is stored in the iOS Keychain, the operating system's encrypted credential store. It is never sent to us, and it is deliberately excluded from the backup file the app exports.

Deleting the app deletes all of it. You can also erase everything from within the app at any time under Settings → Your data → Delete all my data.

Backups are yours. When you export a backup, the app hands the file to iOS and you choose where it goes — Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, anywhere. It never passes through us.

The app contains no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash reporting, and no tracking of any kind. It does not use the Advertising Identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.

What the iOS app sends off your device

Three things leave your phone, and none of them go to us:

• Your AI provider.To work out a book's characteristics, the app sends the title, author, publication year and page count of books in your library; the public catalog description and subject tags for those books; your star ratings and the name of the Goodreads shelf each book sits on; and the taste theme built from those ratings, directly to OpenAI, L.L.C., using your own key. The app asks your permission in Settings, naming this data, before any of it is sent, and you can withdraw that permission there at any time. Nothing is sent until you do. Requests go from your device straight to OpenAI under your own OpenAI account, so your data there is governed by your agreement with them; we have reviewed OpenAI's published privacy commitments and consider the protection they provide comparable to this policy. No other AI service receives your data.
• Book catalogs. Title and author lookups go to Google Books and Open Library to fetch covers, page counts and publication years.
• Buy links.Tapping a buy button opens your browser to a page on this website with the book's title, author and ISBN in the address. Nothing identifying you is included.

New-release alerts are generated entirely on your device. There is no push server, and no notification you receive has been seen by anyone else.

This website

Match Book used to have a web version. It has closed. What remains of this site exists to support the iPhone app: this policy, the support page, the app's marketing page, and the book pages the app's Buy button opens.

• No accounts. None of these pages ask you to sign in, and none of them set tracking cookies.
• Book pages.A book page receives the book's title, author and ISBN in its address, and may show analysis of that book stored in our database. That analysis is about the book; nothing about you is stored with it.
• Hosting. The site runs on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for a limited period.

Former web accounts

If you signed up for the web version before it closed, your sign-in details are held by Clerk, and any library you imported is stored in our database, hosted on Neon. Nothing new is added to either. To have your account and everything attached to it deleted, email TresJDesignSupport@gmail.com.

Book pages and affiliate links

Book pages on this site link to Bookshop.org and Amazon, and Match Book earns a small commission on purchases made through them at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Match Book earns from qualifying purchases.

Following one of those links takes you to that retailer, where their own privacy policy and cookies apply. Book pages themselves require no account and set no tracking cookies.

Children

Match Book isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. The iOS app sends nothing to us from anyone.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data held about you. For the iOS app there is nothing to request from us — we hold none of it, and the app exports your data as a file on demand. For anything the app sent to OpenAI on your behalf, your agreement with OpenAI applies. For a former web account, email us and we'll action it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the updated version appears here. Any change that meant the iOS app started collecting data would also require an updated App Store privacy label before it shipped.
